Hong Kong International Cello Association

The Hong Kong International Cello Association (HKICA) established in 2004 under society ordinance, our mission has always been serving the Hong Kong community with our expertise in music. On a non-profit making basis, we host a variety of activities to promote cello playing and music appreciation for anyone despite age and occupation. It is our desire to see people gain pleasure and build friendship from participating in our activities.

Since 2004, over 10,000 people have enjoyed and benefited from our concerts, talks, and workshops. Throughout the years, we brought to the Hong Kong audience magnificent performances and masterclasses by distinguished cellists like Colin Carr, David Finckel, Martin Lohr, Miklos Perenyi, to name a few. Besides, HKICA is keen to promote up and coming young cellists and provide platform for talented cellists to perform. More than 20 young cellists have been presented by the association to date for concert performances.

The HKICA cares about mass education. In addition to educational concerts, a 6-week cello ensemble course which held twice a year has been going on for 10 years, cherished by over a hundred cello players. The HKICA also assists the underprivileged families by inviting them to our events without financial responsibility, offering them eye-opening experiences no difference from the others. The HKICA never hesitates to organize performances or offer classes and talks on a voluntarily basis, or even raising fund, for charity.

In October, 2014, the HKICA celebrated its 10th anniversary with 100 cellists performing together on stage at the iconic Hong Kong Cultural Centre to a 1000-audience. The concert also featured in particular the performance of the cello faculty of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and the cello section of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta. Congratulatory addresses from Colin Carr, Hai-Ye Ni, John Sharp, Jian Wang, serve as the best recognition of the professional attainments in the realm of western classical music and communal contribution to the community at large of the HKICA.

The HKICA is now a registered charity. Your support is important. Any donation of HK$100 or more is eligible for tax deduction with receipt. For donation over HK$1,000, you will be acknowledged for one year in house programmes of HKICA concerts.
